Holy Cross Academy is pleased to offer workshops on the Orthodox liturgical arts. The workshop experience is designed to be artistically, intellectually and spiritually enriching. In addition to topical lessons, hands-on learning and step-by-step instruction, the daily program also includes time for prayer, reflection and discussion led by Orthodox clergy.

Proceeds from workshops are a fundraiser for Holy Cross Academy and make a great impact for helping to grow our Orthodox educational ministry in the Bay Area.

Introduction to Orthodox Iconography:
The Icon of Christ the Pantocrator

Discover the profound Eastern Christian spirituality and symbolic art of Orthodox Iconography with this five-day, hands-on workshop led by renowned painter and iconographer Tatiana McWethy with spiritual talks and discussion led by Father Ninos Oshaana, presiding priest of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and founder of Holy Cross Academy.

The five-day workshop will be a study on the 13th century icon of Christ the Pantocrator of Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos. The daily program will include:

A unique workshop experience: The painting of an icon is not to be approached as an art project but as a devotional experience. This workshop will be challenging and rewarding both artistically and spiritually for those who come to it with faith, humility and prayer. Over the course of five days, the intricate process of painting an icon will be demonstrated and students will receive close guidance by the instructor as they practice every step of the process, all within an inspiring backdrop of spiritual talks and reflection on the theology of icons. Students will be encouraged to approach the workshop with the understanding that it is in the practicing, the patience, the mistakes, the difficulties of the process that their true learning and spiritual growth will happen.
